After learning about the Elements and Principles of Design, students got to really dig into form by using clay! 6th graders learned pinch pot construction techniques, how to wedge clay, and how to attach extra pieces. Students could pick any subject they wished as along as it used pinch pots in the form.
Next we spent about a week on portraits. Students spent a few days practicing accurate proportions and shading. Then they got to choose whom and how they were going to draw a portrait. Some ideas could include work badges, selfies, book cover, art gallery, or movie poster.
After portraits, students spent 2 days discovering how to create contrast with color, line, shape, texture, and size. We also combined different elements to create even higher contrast. Then 6th graders got to choose how they were going to present the highest contrast piece they could make.
Last Thursday we started learning 1-point perspective. Students will practice drawing shapes, roads and buildings, and rooms all in 1-point perspective. Again, they will be able to choose the subject or theme they wish as long as there is a lot of 1-point perspective shown in their project!
